Follow Your Dream.

As much as I love telling stories, I think it's time for myself to begin to share more directly what I am doing here on this blog. I was told today after taking someone to the airport and having an amazing conversation with a friend to "follow your dream." Surprisingly (for some), this blog is a representation of me doing just that. Following my dream.
For some people, "following dreams" means working in a well-off business, teaching full-time, starting your own company, and having a family. Being successful at what you do depends completely on the person you are talking to. I'm starting to follow one of my dreams of being heard and using my passion for writing here on this blog. Meanwhile, I'm submitting queries to magazines/websites and finally giving myself a chance for success in this area of my life. I'm teaching myself and owning myself in that "I am a writer." I've desired for years to be published and whether it's public or privately published (or under a pseudonym), I'm the one who knows already that I'm starting to achieve that dream.
Now, in other areas of my life, I'm struggling. With huge transitions occurring, career and relationship-wise, I'm not sure what's next. I'm pursuing many options and hoping something will come along that I truly enjoy. I'm waiting for another opportunity to fall into my lap. Talking with life-coaches and taking the leap of faith in ditching my previous career has opened doors to my true self. A friend reminded me today that he can't tell me what I want to do because it's already there. I already have it in my brain and it's simply a matter of finding what it is and going for it.
This blog so far has been stories about my experiences and my life. My love of stories and telling other's stories through my perspective has driven my writing. I have previously worked on travel blogs and a blog that helped me work through my own discoveries by promoting self-esteem and the well-being of people in general. This blog, on the other hand, is intended to promote true stories, real people and heart-to-hearts where life is fun, silly, and enthusiastic, yet with purpose.
I could never publish all of the stories I would want to on here...and there's no way that it'll be perfect. But, I want to take you on a journey with me. Real name. Real facts. Detailed, but generally anonymous. I do that to protect myself and my unknowing subjects and to provide you, the reader, with an opportunity to make up who this person is. YOU can decide if my story is about the person that you've seen in a bar that is wearing the suit. YOU can decide if you've seen that girl in the coffee shop, YOU can see the musician at Potbelly's and name her yourself. Maybe it will inspire you to get to know someone new. As much as I enjoy telling stories, I want you to make a connection with my writing and truly care about the subject because you can relate to it.
In pursuit of my dream here, I am grateful for my readers and hope to continue to promote my writing in this fashion. But this is a living document, meaning that I know that my style will change and that I will adapt as I go. The way I write and the way that these stories are told will shift due to my experiences and development over time. I want you to be involved in that process and through your comments or sharing my blog link, I can improve myself as a writer and as a person.
Just as my friend said, I know in my heart that this is where I need to start right now. Thanks for helping me follow this dream. More stories are to come.
Now, what is your dream? What steps are you taking to get there? Tell your story in the comment box below!
